Oxjam and Night Of The Undread
Last Thursday Oxjam Bournemouth’s fundraising activity kicked off in earnest, with an afternoon pitch at the Bournemouth Family Festival in Meyrick Park, followed by a five band gig at O’Neill’s in the evening. Fundraising Co-ordinator Geoff Birchenough deserves a standing ovation for his efforts, not just in organising these events, but more for his dedication to the cause – auctioning his beloved dreadlocks to the highest bidder!
His solo efforts at the Family Festival put £85.78 into Oxjam Bournemouth’s fundraising pot, enticing kids to participate in his ‘man-made’ Smack The Rat and Coconut Shy stalls. Considering most kids were putting in (much appreciated) copper and silver, this in itself was no mean feat.
There’s something about fundraising gigs which just seems to bring the best out of people. The atmosphere at O’Neill’s in the evening was wonderful, helped by the quality of the music, the energy of the comperes, and most of all the willingness of those in attendance to simply get involved. Thanks loads O’Neill’s and its staff for not just allowing us to hold the event, but also for their generous donation on the night. To raise £479.81 at a free entry gig is a fantastic effort – a massive THANK YOU to The Neon Tigers (below), Toupe, Sarah Griffin, Mischa and Chris Woodford for playing, and to everyone who helped, supported and donated to Oxjam Bournemouth.
Geoff’s dreads alone raised £80, with a spur of the moment auction finding two generous punters each donating £40 to apply the first cut – a gallant act of generosity, soon to be followed by a waxing session at Endorse It this weekend. For more information on upcoming fundraising activity, please keep an eye on out our facebook group. Next up, Oxjam at the Endorse It Festival this Sunday followed by Animal Talent Show, Zac Harris and Head Of A Cuban Trojan (debut) at the Winchester next Thursday.
Thanks loads to Dreadlock Photography for the images, for a look at a complete album of photos from the night take a look at his facebook page.
