Five Go Mad In Dorset

I didn’t actually make it along to either of the semi-finals, but that’s not to say I didn’t want to. So, it’s all down the final five. Congratulations to Sarah Griffin, Discos Out (Murders In), Lady Winwoods Maggot, Mutant Vinyl and The Longest Day for passing all the examinations. The bands ability to promote, advertise, bring a crowd and ultimately entertain have been well and truly tested, the chosen ones being rewarded with a slot at this year’s DMA Finals, taking place next Saturday at the De Vere Suite within the grandeur of the Royal Bath Hotel.

There appears to be a common consensus of opinion (amongst the local rock fraternity at least), surprised at the omission of The Neon Tigers. It appears if it were simply down to local fanbase, they would have walked it. Probably Bel Casino too. But it wasn’t. At the semi-final stage it was simply down to the thoughts of a panel of industry judges. It was all about opinions, and the thing about music is quite simply… everyone’s is different. I’d have liked to see Deltorers make it through from a previous round, but that’s a whole different story.

Agree or disagree with the judges choices, no one could argue with the fact that the finalists are as diverse in style as they are high in quality. Ignore that, some probably could. Hopefully I’ll be able to make the final but even that may not be possible. Gutted. Anyone who does fancy popping along to see the excitement unfold should grab a ticket whilst they can. If last year’s final is anything to go by it’ll be a grand occasion with the most excitable crowds ever seen for local bands. Oh… if only it was always like that.
