Sound Track: Blind Voyeurs – ‘The Christening’

From the first time we saw Blind Voyeurs play live ‘The Christening’ stood out as a classic, a real highlight in their set which, a few years later still sounds fantastic. Taken from their debut album A Rule Of Thirds it is brilliantly atmospheric, the track sums up the band’s appeal; superb production and the ability to evoke a dreamful of colourful thoughts and images from the music…

Blind Voyeurs on ‘The Christening’…

‘The Christening’ was one of the first songs written as Blind Voyeurs. In the early days we would jam in Scott’s lounge using a banana box for drums and use quiet guitars so not to disturb the neighbours. We would leave a four rack tape running and just record everything that was jammed and then pick out bits and pieces that worked. ‘The Christening’ blossomed from an original chord progression that James had worked on and then developed by the band through said jam sessions. Because of the quiet recording conditions the BV songs were always going to be ambient sounding. It was quite difficult at first to recapture this lo-fi vibe and bring it forward to a live setting, but I think we (especially with this particular song) have managed to successfully recreate the original sound of those jams.
