Mutant Vinyl - 'Trip'

We stumbled across Mutant Vinyl via a simple myspace friend request, we checked him out and were instantly blown away with what we heard – especially this track. Band members – Edwin Pope – this was just a one man band! The video on his page (of his recent Solid Air performance at The Winchester) showed and explained more, and was again quite superb. ‘Trip’ is beautifully heavy and dubby, a dance groove crying out to be performed at festivals. The sax and vocal performance, as well as the production and arrangement are all hugely impressive. Apparently he’s getting a band together as we speak… keep your eyes and ears on Mutant Vinyl, this is new and exciting stuff!!

Mutant Vinyl on ‘Trip’…

‘Trip’ was the first track I wrote that I fully got the sax involved with. I wanted a thick dubby groove that was decorated with some jazzy sax licks – something a bit different! I recorded the choon in a few hours, trying to keep the live dynamic as fresh as possible. Lyrically, the song takes aim at Thatcher and her cut-throat approach to industry – something I wasn’t around for at the time, but am reminded of daily. It’s someone rebelling against the system if you like; refusing to be a victim of this attitude and approach. I took great influence from Massive Attack on the track, trying to use rhythm to push dynamic. Short snappy vocals were also helped along by the power I find in Kasabian. Anyway, enough prelude, enjoyyyyyy! Listen as loud and as heavy on the bass end as possible! Cheers!
